5: "Go and tell my servant David, `This is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build me a temple to live in?
1 Kings 5:3
- "You know that my father, David, was not able to build a Temple to honor the name of the LORD his God because of the many wars he waged with surrounding nations. He could not build until the LORD gave him victory over all his enemies.
- But now the LORD my God has given me peace on every side, and I have no enemies and all is well.
1 Chronicles 22:7
- "I wanted to build a Temple to honor the name of the LORD my God," David told him.
- "But the LORD said to me, `You have killed many men in the great battles you have fought. And since you have shed so much blood before me, you will not be the one to build a Temple to honor my name.
